Timothy Whitmer, the author of our new Shepherd’s Call book series, has been an essential resource for our church. Every elder must read his book, “The Shepherd Leader,” during the candidacy process for eldership. In that book, Whitmer lays out the biblical principles for pastor/elder/shepherd leaders in the local church.
The vital concepts of shepherd leaders, “knowing, leading, protecting, and feeding” their flock, which you have probably heard us repeat, were adopted from that work. In “The Shepherd Leader at Home,” our author brings these biblical leadership tenets into the home.
While this book is directed primarily to husbands/fathers, I encourage everyone to join in reading along with Ryan and myself (one chapter a week) because we all should understand what a biblical leader in the home looks like! Young women will learn what to expect from a future Godly partner, young men will learn how to lead when the day comes, current husbands/fathers will sharpen their leadership skills, and wives will be better equipped to help their spouse honor God.
