If you’re honest, there is something in God’s word that you struggle with believing wholeheartedly. I have personally heard people I care about struggle with the Bible’s binary on sexual identity, wonder if God actually cares about women, question if the Bible is wrong about geological history, among other things. Our sin has caused a wall of distrust between our fallen minds and God’s revelation in Scripture. But if we are to thrive in God’s world we must increasingly learn to trust God, by faith, in every area that the Bible makes claims.
Our foundation for understanding everything must be in truth as revealed in God’s trustworthy word. This is as true in our personal battles as our public debates. The world will challenge us on what authority we make as our guide. So we must stand with truth, not only for our joy but also for the mission of the church – to proclaim real redemption in a real savior from real sin. When the church takes its cues from a world that needs saving we will inevitably “distort the gospel message itself” (page 55).
