Lie #1: Homosexuality Is Normal (Part 4 of 4)

If you currently own the book under review, then I strongly encourage you to read chapter 4, "Why Is Homosexuality a Sin When It Feels Normal to Some People?" And if you don't own the book, this chapter is worth the purchase because it deals with a question to which every human can relate: What do we do with our sinful nature? In addition to answering this universal question, other thought-provoking topics, such as our sin as pagan worship, empathy versus sympathy, finding acceptance through community, and the perfect nature of Christ, are all presented quickly--yet enough is said to satisfy one's curiosity.
Union with Christ is the central privilege of the Christian faith and the antidote to gay Christianity. You can’t place your life’s meaning in Christ and in sin at the same time.
— Rosaria Butterfield
Returning to the question, Butterfield's solution for our sinful nature is the gospel of Jesus Christ, particularly our union with Christ! Our author writes, "Union with Christ is the central privilege of the Christian faith and the antidote to gay Christianity. You can't place your life's meaning in Christ and in sin at the same time." (90). If homosexuality tempts you, or overwhelming jealousy or habitual fear (insert the sin that feels defining), repent and turn to Christ, who has the exclusive claim of His redeemed. Homosexuality (along with every type of sin) must be repented of—whether it's chosen or unchosen—because our unrepentant sin will always rob the joy from our union with Christ.
