Reflecting on Lord’s Day Worship (Bonus Pt. 6)

The author of Hebrews tells us that in addition to coming to a kingdom that cannot be shaken (Heb. 12:28), you and I have also come to “innumerable angels in festal gathering, and to the assembly of the firstborn enrolled in heaven” (Heb. 12:23). In other words, when we (the church on earth, known also as the church militant) come to worship on the Lord’s Day we join the church in heaven (known also as the church triumphant) in exulting and glorifying the triune God. This reality, though unseen, is magnificently true. We are partaking in something heavenly during our earthly worship. So sing, church, sing. Join the church triumphant in her song. For “salvations belongs to our God who sits on the throne, and to the Lamb” (Rev. 7:10).
We are partaking in something heavenly during our earthly worship.
